Supporting Sandy Victims in the Northeast
Supporting Sandy Victims in the Northeast
Williams supports efforts to aid our friends and neighbors in New York and New Jersey affected by the devastation of Superstorm Sandy.
To help rebuilding efforts in the areas hardest hit, Williams is donating to four local organizations:
- $75,000 to the Rockaway Point Volunteer Fire Department
- $5,000 to the Rockaway Youth Task Force
- $45,000 to the Stephen Siller Foundation Hurricane Relief Fund to be directed to Staten Island Relief
- $35,000 to the American Red Cross of Northern New Jersey
Williams encourages its customers, employees, vendors and all other concerned parties to support Sandy victims through the organizations listed above, or through the American Red Cross. Williams matches employee donations to charitable relief organizations dollar for dollar.
New York and New Jersey are part of Williams’ largest natural gas transmission market, which has been served by our Transco pipeline for decades.
“Our hearts go out to everyone who suffered losses during this destructive storm,” said Alan Armstrong, chief executive officer. “We not only have employees and facilities throughout the region, but we also help supply gas to millions of people through the utilities that we serve.”
Although the Transco interstate gas pipeline didn’t experience any significant operational issues, the liquefied natural gas storage facility and compressor station in Carlstadt, N.J., experienced flooding when the levees surrounding the plant gave way, allowing two feet of water to engulf the facility.
Repair crews got to work immediately when it was safe to do so, repairing two breeches in the levee so that water could be pumped out of the plant. Transco pipeline facilities in Carlstadt and other locations remained operational with the help of natural gas generators.
Williams also has provided immediate support to our area employees affected by Sandy.
